2.7 x 4.6 Antique Lillihan Rug, Palmette Design, Circa 1915
Featuring a design generally seen in antique Fereghan Sarouk rugs that were also woven in central Persia’s Sultanabad Province, this highly distinctive small Lillihan rug is quite finely woven, suggesting it was probably woven by an Armenian weaver. The combination of the quality and design also suggests it is earlier than most Lillihan rugs, which more typically date to the 1920s and 1930s.
The yellow-camel field is quite unusual and the wool is of beautiful quality.
