2 x 2.2 Antique Jozan Rug, West Persia, Circa 1920
A small antique Jozan rug with a coral medallion on a navy field. The small, almost square size gives this finely woven example a distinctive appearance, relative to most examples which are closer to 3 feet in length.
Although Jozan rugs technically are woven in west Persia’s Hamadan Province, they are often referred to colloquially as “Jozan Sarouk” rugs, due to their dense weave which is similar to Sarouk rugs that are woven further east in Sultanabad (now called Arak) Province.
A moderately priced furnishing rug that would also be a good option for a new enthusiast or beginning collector.
