Project Description

8.9 x 11.6 Antique Bakshaish Carpet, Open Field Design, Northwest Persia, Circa 1900

Antique Bakshaish carpets were woven in the Heriz district in northwest Persia’s Azerbaijan Province. One of the most classic and popular styles seen in antique Bakshaish carpets are open field formats. In this example, the abrashed (variegated) red field contains an ivory medallion and is framed by sky blue corner spandrels and a brick red border.

Antique Bakshaish carpets, especially those with open field designs, reflect a minimalism that makes them highly suitable for both traditional and modern interiors.
